ONE MILLION SOULS
|
|
| “Evangelist
Jacob Oluwaniyi & Family” |
One million of
anything is still a large enough number to capture most of our
attention. With some ministries in heavily Hindu or Muslim areas it
would be impossible to reach such a huge host of people. Likewise,
for many of our National Leaders using Torch Kits in remote areas
where an audience of 100 people would be considered large enough,
this size number is not attainable. But with the right equipment in
the right country, 1 million in 10 years did happen.
At least by now it certainly has for Evangelist Jacob Oluwaniyi
of Nigeria. Reports from Jacob from late 1998 through September
2006 so far list 1,100 showings to 946,601 individuals with 112,743
souls counseled for salvation. Children often are not counted. Yet,
they may comprise from 1/3 to ½ an entire audience. 16mm motion
picture equipment and our Ken Anderson Films drama presentations
drew the crowds over the years, as Jacob and his faithful team have
traveled all over southwestern Nigeria to proclaim the Good News of
Jesus Christ.
"Preparing for Film
Showing"
Just how do such
large crowds come together? One outreach was planned for a town
named Telemu. There were 180 houses in Telemu with a mosque on both
ends of the town. An open-air film showing was planned directly in
the center with activities set to begin as both mosques ended their
evening activities. Our film, PILGRIM’S PROGRESS, was begun, and
immediately all the children came running to see it, quickly
followed by their mothers. One of the Imans challenged Jacob to stop
the film, but Jacob had been properly invited to the town and so
declined to end it. When the film finished, he told the crowd that
the very next evening another film would be presented. Even before
Jacob returned the next day over 1,000 people gathered in
anticipation, many skipping their traditional service at the mosque
to get better viewing spots. As the film began, many other Muslim
dignitaries also gathered and watched. Praise God the very next day
many of those people, who had chosen to follow Christ the night
before showed up for baptism and a new church was established in
Telemu. Included in the baptismal service was an 85-year-old former
Muslin, who had secretly watched the film, PILGRIM’S PROGRESS, from
the window of his house, which was next door to the venue. For many
years he had suffered serious leg problems and could not even walk.
That first evening when Pilgrim approached the cross and received
his salvation, and when in the film presentation one sees Pilgrim’s
burden of sin roll off his back, this man named Amusa was completely
healed. He was so shocked he said nothing. Even the next night he
again watched Jacob’s program but remained silent. But the very next
day when his neighbors and friends gathered for the baptism service,
he easily walked in front of everyone, gave his testimony, received
his baptism, and joined the new church.

"Jacob Offering an Invitation to Accept
Jesus Christ"
God works through
His own pleasure around the world, claiming souls one by one. Many
are drawn to public film or video presentations where, through the
power and appeal of a Christian message, the Gospel is presented by
a National Evangelist. Jacob Oluwaniyi today, most weekends, and
whenever invited, continues to answer the call of Matthew 28 in his
home country, Nigeria, faithfully using Media Tools, made possible
by you and provided through InterComm.
SPANISH DVD MASTERS NEEDED
Would you
please pray about helping us cover a one-time cost
of developing our 12 Spanish films into DVD format
so we can begin making them available to National
Christian Leaders In Mexico, Central America, and
South America. Numerous opportunities arise each
year where Spanish is part of the primary language.
We used to be able to make Spanish video available
on VHS tape, but this is no longer wanted by most
people in the emerging world. Transitioning on to
disk is a necessary step, and we need to raise a
one-time budget of $3,500 to cover those costs.
If you can help us with this need, we would greatly
appreciate it. Gifts over and above your normal
contributions would make a great investment into the
future ministry of the Spanish-speaking world.
You’ll notice the Spanish DVD masters listed on the
back page as a current Project Opportunity. Thank
you for helping to make this great need a
possibility.
PHILIPPINES PROJECT - RESULTS
"Cebuano Evangelist Mario Salinda"
A
recent Report from our Project Leader, Dr Nora Laus,
posted showings of our Ilongo translated films to 833
people with 256 souls seeking Jesus Christ. Likewise
on this Report, there were Cebuano Language videos shown
to 711 people with 202 individuals seeking Jesus
Christ. Film Evangelist, Richard Tuan shared,
“Children especially love to watch DOMBI in Ilongo.”
This was a film Richard deeply desired to have in
the Ilongo Language, because he was convinced it would
help bear much fruit. God is blessing his conviction.
Project Coordinator, Venj Firmalino, wrote,
“The new films in our languages are being circulated all
over Mindanao in nearly every Province. Praise God,
because as a result, many have committed their lives to
Jesus Christ after watching these films in their own
dialect.”
Dr. Laus commented, “Our audiences are happy to watch
and listen to showings that are of their own mother
tongue. We thank God for the ministry of InterComm, of
which we became a part for the Cebuano and Ilongo
translations.”
Cebuano Evangelist, Mario Salinda, also shared,
“As I was one of the cast of the Cebuano Translation
Films, I didn’t have a hard time in giving the salvation
challenge. People clearly understood the message in
their own language.”
Praise God with us that much fruit is being harvested
from our labors in the Philippines. Thank you so much
for your prayers for this work, which now is ongoing on
a monthly basis. Distribution throughout the islands
will continue, not only through the Committee on
Mindanao but from the InterComm office. We praise God
for this work He has accomplished.
THANK YOU
FOR THE TORCH KIT
Evangelist
Samuel Olakunle of Nigeria writes:
“With gratitude from our heart to God, we thank you for your
contribution of the Torch Kit. We usually organize Crusades in
villages of various sizes. We have discovered that visual aids
help communicate faster the message of Jesus Christ. In one of
our programs in Akayafi Village an Islamic fellow came up to me
after our showing and said, ‘Your program was good and tomorrow
I will invite my group from my own community.’ To my surprise,
the following day they did come and watch the wonder of the
Torch Kit. Following that showing, we made an altar call. He and
his entire household gave their lives to Jesus Christ, and they
were 9 in number. The Torch Kit is a new additional package we
now have in our ministry that attracts people to us, even when
we are setting it up. It is very good! We also used the
Torch Kit in the Awode Market. Over 600 people joined us in the
market square, and after showing the stories, MY MOTHER and MR
GOODMAN & HIS GOLD, more than 160 people came for counseling.
Later in Kajola, a village where my father was born, the turnout
was even much greater. Even the Muslim people came out to listen
to us and a few of them gave their lives to Christ. They were
1,500 people watching, and 60 responded at the altar call.
How we thank God that we had a peaceful program.”
The complete Report turned in by Evangelist Olakunle included
showings to 4,840 people with 960 responding to the
invitation following Torch Kit showings.
LEAVING BAD
HABITS
Dr Chandrakant
Mhaske of India writes:
“Thank you InterComm for providing the Torch Kit. You have done
excellent work for us. By this instrument and also the videos, we
can spread the Word of God effectively to many other people. They
like very much the Torch Kit and videos, and especially when we have
shown the Filmstrip, FAITH’S FAMILY. Many people have taken a
decision to change their life and even make a promise to leave their
bad habits like tobacco chewing, smoking, drugs, and alcoholism. I
deeply appreciate working with InterComm.”
These comments accompanied a Report of 15 showings to 471 people
with 191 giving their lives to Jesus Christ.
HEARTBEAT by Ken Anderson
(For a period of time, InterComm will be sharing Heartbeats from
the Ken Anderson Films era.)
A missionary once
introduced me to the initials CPT. “The letters can stand
for 1 of 2 things,” he said. “Either Cotton Picking
Tourist or Christian Passing Through.” He complimented me
by adding, “We place you in the 2nd category.”
It occurred to me that in the journey through life we are CPT’s.
Only I’d like to put it another way. Either we are Tourists
Passing Through This World or else we are Pilgrims, as
the Bible describes. Tourists too often only have their own
interests in mind. The needs of others, the squalor, the spiritual
lostness mean very little. How often this is similarly true of
Christians, making life’s journey as though it were the primary
event. May God grant you the perception to realize we are not
Tourists in this World, but we are mean to be Pilgrims.
People aware of their transience. People eager to make the most of
every moment. People who truly see themselves as ambassadors with a
job to do.
